Nice interview with Andy Hampsten over on Belgium Knee Warmers. And the photo got me thinking. Was the La Vie Claire-Wonder kit the coolest in cycling history? The latest Rouleur includes the second part of their iconic jersey article but the Mondrian-inspired beauty doesn't get a mention. Surely wrong.And those Oakley Factory Pilot Eyeshades (I had an identical blue pair) are the coolest bike glasses ever, bar none. So that's that sorted.

Definitely. Back in 1985-86 I had a pair of black factory pilots!
Still tempted to buy a pair on eBay, although I wear prescription lenses now so they'd be useless on the bike. I do worry that I think old Oakleys and eighties' jerseys are cool just because they remind me of a time when I was younger and slimmer, with more hair. I even, briefly, tried the gold rim glasses and ponytail look of Laurent Fignon. But there was definitely something about that period that had a sense of style and glamour, not always present in today's peloton.
